There's plenty to love about living in Atlanta, but one of the best perks is the delicious Georgia peaches. Nothing beats going to a farm near Atlanta homes for sale and buying fresh-picked peaches—except maybe picking those peaches yourself. There are several u-pick peach farms in the area and plenty of others that sell them right off the tree. Here are some of our favorites.
- Dickey Farms - 3440 Musella Road, Musella, GA 31066
With over 127 years in the industry, it's safe to say nobody does peaches like Dickey Farms. They ship their produce all over, but when you come to pick them yourself, they just taste better. Bring your lunch and make a day of it, or indulge in some of their peach products on site, from peach jam to peach pie to peach ice cream and even peach salsa. You can also schedule group tours of the farm and packing line or take one of their tours to learn about farming practices and the history of the Georgia peach.
- Jaemor Farms - 5340 Cornelia Highway, Alto, GA 30510
Saturdays and Sundays are u-pick peach days at Jaemor Farms. For a $5 admission per person, get a bag and pick a peck of peaches (about 14 pounds) for $25 per bag, or get two-peck bags for $40. They have 33 different peach varieties, from Georgia Belle to Scarlett Prince to Flavorich. And peaches are just the beginning! They grow everything from plums and nectarines to cucumber and sweet corn—plus berries, melons, and much more throughout the year. Then, when you're done picking produce, stop by the Jaemor Farms Eatery for a sandwich, some barbecue, and their Milkshake of the Month.
- Southern Belle Farm - 1658 Turner Church Road, McDonough, GA 30252
For eight generations, Southern Belle Farm has provided top-quality produce to the Atlanta community. With 10 varieties to choose from, peach picking is open daily beginning in June, for a $1 admission, plus the cost of peaches ($23.95 a peck or $15.95 for half a peck). Or, for $3.95, you can get a season pass and return as often as you want—not just for peaches but strawberries, pumpkins, and all their other produce-picking seasons throughout the year.
- Lane Southern Orchards - 50 Lane Road, Fort Valley, GA 31030
If you're looking for a fun, family outing with freshly picked peaches and a delicious homecooked meal, head to Lane Southern Orchards. While they don't offer u-pick peaches, they sell them fresh off the trees within hours of their picking at their roadside market. They also have a farm-themed playground for the kids, complete with real tractors! Then, head to the Peachtree Cafe for a sandwich, burger, and a slice of their famous pecan pie. This spot is a little further away, but it's well worth the visit.
- CJ Orchards - 1241 Old Mill Road, Rutledge, GA 30663
CJ Orchards prides itself on its quality and freshness. Their peaches are carefully tended throughout the year to maximize flavor, then picked at peak ripeness and sold same-day. They specialize in only a few varieties and cultivate them to the highest quality. The result is the sweetest, juiciest peaches you've ever tasted.
Besides peaches, Georgia also has plenty of other fresh farm produce available throughout the year. And if you live in Atlanta, you can experience all of it.
