At Josey Young & Brady Realty, our REALTORS® have a passion for helping clients achieve the dream of homeownership with the very best Atlanta homes.
Naturally, one of the first decisions your real estate agent will advise you on is the choice of neighborhood. It's always a good idea to narrow down your selection to 1-3 areas so you can stay focused and find the right properties to bid on sooner.
As Georgia's most populous city--with more than 5.8 million residents--Atlanta offers you a wide range of neighborhoods. There's truly something to suit every taste.
To make things easier, we've created this handy summary of the best Atlanta neighborhoods:
- Brookhaven
Brookhaven is an affluent area that ranks as one of the newest communities to hit the scene. Only recently incorporated, it has a population of about 49,000. Its housing stock includes a mix of new developments and historic ones, like early 20th century bungalows and ranch homes.
Properties in the most desirable areas of Brookhaven climb to an asking price of $1 million.
- Buckhead
Buckhead is the name for the northern fifth of Atlanta. It is the city's third-largest business district, serving as a hub for financial services and commercial activity for the entire U.S. Southeast. Some of the top employers in Georgia have their headquarters here.
- Inman Park
Inman Park has a number of distinctions. It's the city's first planned residential neighborhood and the first area to be serviced by electric trolley. It has a unique Victorian flavor in planning and architecture: You'll find beautifully curved streets, large lots, and plenty of green spaces.
- Hanover West
Hanover West has been a true local institution since being established in the 1960s. It consists of about 100 of the most sought-after homes in the whole region. It is a close-knit neighborhood where the pool and tennis club serve as the center of a rich social life.
- Lake Claire
Lake Claire has plenty to recommend it: A diverse spectrum of home styles, gorgeous mature trees, and a strong community where you'll feel right at home. Lake Claire has been inhabited since 1871 and has a number of vibrant smaller developments within its bounds.
- Roswell
When you're considering a home in Roswell, you can have your pick of anything from brand new condos to mid-century historic dwellings. Upscale restaurants sit in the pedestrian-friendly downtown district, while plenty of hiking trails will provide you with hours of enjoyment.
- Suwanee
The suburb of Suwanee shares its name with both the river and the famous song. With 18,000 locals, Suwanee is considered one of the top selections for anyone planning to raise a family: It's the centerpiece of the high-ranked Gwinnet County Public School System.
- Tyrone
Located conveniently just south of the city, the tiny town of Tyrone is home to 7,000. It has a healthy local culture with deep roots leading back to the 1800s. The locals have celebrated Founder's Day every day for 40 years. This idyllic and quiet suburb has a median home value around $238,000.
- West End
West End was named by the Atlanta Journal Constitution as one of the top Atlanta neighborhoods for new home buyers. It sits close to the Beltline, as well as MARTA and other public transit options. It is also one of the city's most walkable stretches.
- East Point
East Point is another place you might want to put right at the top of your list if you're a first-time buyer. It's especially interesting thanks to its large stock of attractive cottages and bungalows. It is known for its safety and a good police-community relationship.
