Buying a Home Atlanta Commute Time
If you're considering buying a home, you're contemplating many factors:  the style of the home, the location, and the local schools. However, have you thought about how long your commute to work will be from the new house?  Real estate experts say homebuyers should consider many factors when considering a lengthy commute and searching for Atlanta homes for sale.

  • Commuting Costs - According to the Census Bureau, the average homeowner spends around 25 minutes commuting, though those living in NYC, Boston, and Atlanta may spend longer in traffic.  If you're set on moving to a nicer neighborhood, take the time to calculate the costs of a lengthy commute. Extra gas and vehicle maintenance can take a toll on your budget, costing more than $2,000 a year.
  • Commuting Causes Stress - Long commutes can cause stress since you spend so much time on the road and not doing the things you enjoy. You don't have as much time to spend with your partner or children, which may cause marital strife.  If you don't have enough time to de-stress, you could soon gain weight or develop headaches.
  • Contemplate Your Job Flexibility - Whether you live in the city versus the suburbs may depend on your job flexibility. If you or your partner work a traditional 9-5 job, then accessibility and an easy commute are essential. However, if you have a flexible schedule or telecommute part-time, you could avoid rush hour and have a little more leeway.
  • Consider Your Lifestyle - Millennials often prefer being right in the city because they want access to everything. Many families have deemed a short commute the second most important factor after a quality school district.

Three Atlanta Neighborhoods to Make Your Home

Are you looking for an easier commute? These three neighborhoods feature beautiful homes in the heart of Atlanta, without spending tons of time in traffic.

  1. East Lake in Atlanta, GA
Featuring beautifully landscaped homes and just six miles from Downtown Atlanta,  the East Lake neighborhood includes amenities that potential home buyers will love. It's located among safe, tree-lined streets, with easy access to the East Lake Golf Club, the local YMCA, and many shopping and dining options. Being so close to Atlanta, you'll spend around 20-30 minutes on your commute, depending on the time of day. We'd love to show you why we love the East Lake subdivision.
  2. Oakhurst in Decatur, GA
Featuring mostly craftsman bungalows in a historic neighborhood, Oakhurst is the ideal location for a tight-knit community with friendly neighbors.  Located within walking distance to downtown Decatur and only six miles south of Downtown Atlanta, this is a pristine location. You're nearby Oakhurst Village's shops and restaurants and surrounded by local parks, complete with walking trails, sports fields, and a dog park. It's only about a 15-minute commute so check out the Oakhurst subdivision.
  3. Buckhead in Atlanta, GA
Featuring over 40 different neighborhoods, the subdivision of Buckhead offers a distinct style in each one.  It features everything from historic mansions to a thriving commercial district. It houses two of Atlanta's colleges.  It's only 7 miles from Atlanta and around a 20-minute commute, so it's less than most Americans drive, which is the ideal reason to check out the Buckhead subdivision.
