When you need some time in the great outdoors, Georgia is a great place to be. Some of the state's most beautiful parks, trails, campgrounds, and lakes are within an hour's drive of Atlanta, and our real estate agents are excited to share some of our favorites. If you're looking for tent camping near Atlanta, be sure to check out these fun, relaxing campgrounds:
- Red Top Mountain State Park - 50 Lodge Rd. SE, Acworth, GA 30102
Encompassing more than 1,000 shady, secluded acres on the shore of Lake Allatoona, Red Top Mountain State Park is one of Georgia's top destinations for fishing, swimming, and water sports. Fifteen miles of hiking trails also make it a haven for hikers, and the park's campground includes just shy of 100 campsites for both tents and RVs. Red Top Mountain State Park is less than 40 minutes from the heart of Atlanta, and just a short drive from these Atlanta homes for sale.
- The Farm at Wilkerson Mill - 8455 Wilkerson Mill Rd., Palmetto, GA 30268
This cozy, privately-owned campground just outside Atlanta feels like it's half a world away from civilization. Rather than traditional, designated campsites, The Farm at Wilkerson Mill has a large tent camping area, where you can pitch your tent anywhere you like among the woods and fields of the former five-acre family farm. With a grand pavilion, ample fire pit, convenient restrooms, and a large smokehouse, it's a great place to get away for a weekend with family and friends.
- High Falls State Park - 76 High Falls Park Dr., Jackson, GA 30233
Named for its famous falls, which cascade down a rocky stretch of the Towaliga River, High Falls State Park is one of Georgia's most picturesque parks. Hiking trails in the park provide access to the beautiful 135-foot falls, as well as the ruins of a former 19th-century industrial ghost town that once occupied the area. Over 100 tent and RV campsites are available, as well as a large primitive group camp. Many visitors are drawn to the park's 650-acre lake, which is one of the best bass fishing spots in the state.
- Panola Mountain State Park - 2620 Georgia 155 SW, Stockbridge, GA 30281
Endless opportunities for adventure await at Panola Mountain State Park. Its namesake peak is a towering, granite-domed mountain at the heart of the park, surrounded by 1,600 wooded acres. Hiking to the top of the mountain is one of the park's great experiences, along with fishing in its two lakes, but you'll also want to leave plenty of time to simply relax. Panola Mountain State Park is home to a small, five-site primitive campground that is quiet, secluded, and perfect for tent camping.
