Our real estate agents know that sellers are always looking for ways to impress buyers and make them notice all their home has to offer. Getting ready to sell always means completing a few projects around the house. When you're redoing a room, deciding on a look for the walls is a must. The walls are usually the largest surface and most noticeable part of a room. So it's a good opportunity to really catch a buyer's attention.
- Repair and patch. This is a big must when you're selling and it's the first step in any wall-related project. Life happens, and your walls may have dents, cracks, gouges, or nail holes to prove it. They may seem small, but buyers will notice, and repairing them will make a dramatic difference. For nail holes and other small blemishes, spackle and a putty knife will do the trick. For large holes mesh patches or a piece of drywall and some joint compound will be necessary. Sand afterward to blend the repairs into the rest of the wall.
- Paint it. A fresh coat of paint does wonders for a room. It keeps everything looking clean and bright, which always impresses buyers. Opt for colors that make the most of the room's natural light.
- Hang wallpaper. Wallpaper is having a bit of a moment right now. The bold look of today's prints is an eye-catching way to update a bedroom or create an accent wall. Keep in mind that you may need a helper for this job.
- Add shelving. Open shelving is a very on-trend look for Atlanta homes for sale. And it's a great way to add storage to a kitchen or bath.
- Hang a few pictures. It's true sellers should depersonalize their space, but if you're staring at completely empty walls it can make a room seem sterile, unfinished, and less inviting. Adding a few strategically placed pictures or artwork can help your home look like a friendly place that buyers can envision themselves in.
- Install crown molding. This dramatic and elegant look is popular with buyers. It only requires basic tools and is a pretty easy DIY, especially if the room isn't irregularly shaped.
- Wall mount your television. If your flat-screen TV isn't already wall-mounted, you may want to consider doing it before you show your home. If you can conceal the cords neatly, wall mounting the TV eliminates a piece of furniture so the room will seem bigger and more open. Eliminating a piece of furniture can also improve the flow of traffic through the room.
