It's Tuesday night, and you don't feel like cooking. Some Mexican food would be great, but not just any Mexican food. If you really want to make your Taco Tuesday a cut above, you'll want to find some birria tacos. Birria is a delicious meat stew (traditionally goat meat, but it can also be made with beef or lamb) that's sweet, sour, spicy, tender, and amazing. It's great on its own, and it's even better as a taco filling.
But you've just moved to a new house. Where are the good Mexican restaurants in your area, and which ones serve birria? Fear not. Our real estate agents know where all the best places for birria tacos in the Atlanta area and can help you find one near you. Here are some favorites, to take your Taco Tuesday to the next level.
- DMT - 479-B Flat Shoals Ave., Atlanta, GA 30316
Tuesday through Friday nights, as well as weekend afternoons, you can find this pop-up in front of We Suki Suki Vietnamese restaurant, in East Atlanta Village. The birria tacos from DMT have delicious braised beef on a corn tortilla, along with onion, cilantro, and avocado salsa. You can also get the birria-queso taco, which comes with cheese. In addition to tacos, they also have mulitas, tortas, and a host of other amazing menu options, including a few surprise offerings that they announce on their Instagram.
- Birria El Gordo - 350 Pat Mell Rd. SE Marietta, GA 30060
In addition to traditional beef and goat birria, Birria El Gordo also features chicken and even jackfruit birria! While this counter-service location is open Friday through Sunday in the daytime, they also have special "Taco Tuesday" hours, noon - 8 p.m.
- Chef Smokey ATL - 2805 Veterans Memorial Hwy. SW, Austell, GA, 30168
Looking for authentic birria served in a variety of ways? In addition to regular birria and birria tacos, Chef Smokey ATL serves up quesabirria, birria nachos, and more. You can't go wrong with whatever you choose.
- Big Mike Tacos ATL-MEX - Various Locations
Big Mike Tacos ATL-MEX is a food truck that changes locations each day, so be sure to check their Instagram page to see when they'll be near you! Boasting "traditional flavor with a local twist," they fuse Mexican food with elements of Atlanta cuisine. They serve all sorts of different tacos, but the birria tacos, made with pieces of juicy steak, are the most popular.
- Bone Garden Cantina - 1425 Ellsworth Industrial Blvd. NW, Atlanta, GA 30318
Bone Garden Cantina features great atmosphere as well as great food. It's decked out in Dia de Los Muertos folk art done by owner Michael Benoit, along with other local artists. They've got a whole host of great tacos, from shrimp verde to blackened tilapia to al pastor, as well as amazing birria brisket enchiladas.
- Frida's Taqueria - 5514 Lawrenceville Hwy. Suite A, Lilburn, GA 30047
Sadly, Frida's Taqueria is only open Wednesday through Sunday, so it's not the best choice for Taco Tuesday. But truth be told, any day is a good day for tacos, and Frida's are well worth it. Their birria tacos are served with extra birria broth on the side for dipping, as is their Super Birria Quesadilla. They also have all sorts of great other menu options, from tortas to burritos to empanadas to elote. They feature both indoor and outdoor dining options, as well as carryout.
