    Though it's not affiliated with the Fernbank Natural History Museum, the Fernbank Science Center is another wonderful facility in Atlanta that mixes education and fun. Operated by the DeKalb County School District, this facility features a live animals exhibit that's open every day, as well as the upcoming Nikon Small World exhibit that's sure to be a hit with fossil lovers. The Small World exhibit allows you to explore the tiniest creatures on the planet, with photomicrographers providing unique, detailed photos of animals that wouldn't be visible any other way.

  • Tellus Science Museum – 100 Tellus Dr., Cartersville, GA 30120
    Located a short drive north of Atlanta, the Tellus Science Museum features one of the largest fossil collections anywhere in Georgia, making it well worth the trip. For fossil enthusiasts, the large Fossil Gallery is sure to be a hit. The gallery will take you through millions of years of dinosaur history, with a large, complete tyrannosaurus rex fossil, a saber-tooth cat fossil, the jaw of a massive megalodon shark, and much more. There's also a great fossil dig site, perfect for younger visitors.

  • The Georgia Mineral Society – 4138 Steve Reynolds Blvd., Norcross, GA 30093
    Are you interested in digging into fossils on a deeper level? The Georgia Mineral Society is a local club dedicated to exploring fossils and minerals. The club offers regular meetings and events, including some virtual events that allow you to learn more about fossils from the comfort of home. There are also youth-focused programs that make it easy for young fossil enthusiasts to learn more about their favorite hobby.

The Dinosaur Explore experience at Stone Mountain Park is an outdoor, interactive exhibit featuring animatronic dinosaurs and unique special effects. There are also some great educational opportunities at the interactive paleontology tents, where you can dig into the scientific side of these ancient creatures. The Dinotorium, an indoor attraction focused more on fun than education, is also located at Stone Mountain Park.
