Art Classes Around Atlanta | JYB Realty

Whether you're a novice interested in art and looking for a creative outlet or an experienced artist looking to hone your skills, there's an art class in Atlanta to suit your needs. Of course, painting and drawing classes are offered, but you'll also find classes that help you make pottery, learn to weave, and explore other art forms. Our real estate agents suggest taking an art class at one of the following Atlanta area venues.

  • Callanwolde Fine Arts Center - 980 Briarcliff Road NE, Atlanta, GA 30306
    Callanwolde Fine Arts Center
and its beautiful grounds are an Atlanta landmark, showcasing a 20th-century approach to Tudor-Gothic design. Built between 1917 and 1921, Callanwolde is a mansion that was the long-time home of Charles Howard Candler, who bought the formula for Coca-Cola in 1891. Today the estate hosts concerts and other events as well as a diverse set of performing, visual, and literary arts classes. Topics include drawing and painting, creative writing, pottery and ceramics, photography, and weaving. And if you're an artist needing equipment and space, the estate provides access to equipment such as kilns, throwing wheels, looms, and more.

  • Chastain Arts Center - 135 Chastain Park Ave. NW, Atlanta, GA 30342
The oldest arts center in Atlanta, Chastain Arts Center offers many classes for youths, teens, and adults, from beginners to those with years of experience. It's located in the 268-acre Chastain Park and hosts drawing classes, including basic portrait drawing for beginners and mixed media classes such as abstract with collage. Painting classes that utilize oils, acrylics, and watercolors are also offered, as well as pottery on the wheel, hand-building, frame making, and jewelry and metalsmithing.

  • Atlanta Clay Works - 42 Howard St. SE, Atlanta, GA 30317
If you'd like to learn about the craft of pottery, head to Atlanta Clay Works. To get started in a no-pressure way, try an evening of wheel or hand-building at Clay Play for Adults, where you'll get to make up to three items. More formal—but still fun!—classes are offered for beginners (where you'll learn basic skills and techniques for making cups, mugs, bowls, and more) and advanced artists (where you'll learn about glazing techniques, carving, and altering and making lidded vessels and larger forms).

  • Dawn Art Studios - 180 11th St. NE, Atlanta, GA 30309
Dawn Kinney Martin, who owns and teaches at Dawn Art Studios, is an award-winning artist and teacher who has taught at SCAD Atlanta and The Atlanta College of Art. She specializes in expressive oil paintings that are often plein-air creations. For one-on-one instruction, sign up for private instruction, or take a four-week painting class designed for all levels of artists.

  • High Museum of Art - 1280 Peachtree St. NE, Atlanta, GA 30309
The High Museum of Art, commonly referred to as "the High," has a huge and diverse collection of art that attracts many locals as well as out-of-towners to the museum. It also offers classes such as Drawing from Experience, which focuses on taking inspiration from the High's collections as you develop your drawing skills and personal expression. If you'd like to explore different materials and techniques, try Studio Sessions, workshops that let you dabble in new mediums connected to art displayed at the High. And once you have more experience, take Studio Classes to explore mediums and materials in-depth and boost your technical skills and creativity.
