Our real estate agents believe that the sights and attractions of Atlanta are best explored from the seat of a bicycle. This summer, tune up your bike and hit these beautiful trails around Hotlanta.
- Stone Mountain Trail
In 1995, the PATH Foundation kicked off its mission to create a network of greenspaces around Atlanta homes for sale with the Stone Mountain Trail. If you're a newcomer to the ATL or entertaining out-of-town guests, this trail should be tops on your list. Beginning at Centennial Olympic Park, the 18.4-mile trail passes by top Atlanta attractions such as the World of Coke, Mercedes Benz Stadium, the Georgia Aquarium, and the MLK Jr. National Historic Site. Along the way, the route incorporates the scenic Freedom Park Trail before ending at Stone Mountain. This trail does include approximately 4 miles of on-road travel, so it may not be suitable for young children.
- Arabia Mountain Path
The Arabia Mountain Path offers a remarkable landscape makes you feel like you're in another world. Towering monadnocks, remnants of hills and mountains worn away by erosion, resemble the surface of the moon, while other sections feature wooded areas and expanses of grass. Other memorable sights include Parker House, the oldest homestead in Rockdale County, along with several bridges, barns, and ruins of a quarry and a mill. The Monastery of the Holy Spirit is located on lush grounds dotted with magnolia trees, making it a perfect spot for a picnic. The dog-friendly trail spans just over 30 miles but contains several shorter rides that will accommodate cyclists of any age or ability.
- Silver Comet Trail
In the mood for a marathon outing? At 61 miles, extending from Atlanta to the Georgia-Alabama state line, the Silver Comet Trail is one of the longest paved paths in the United States. Like many other trails, the dog-friendly Silver Comet was established along the route of an abandoned railroad line. From 1947 until 1969, the Silver Comet was an upscale passenger train operated by the Seaboard Air Line Railroad. Some popular stops on the trail are Heritage Park, Pumpkinvine Trestle, and the State Line Gateway. If you're feeling less ambitious, the first 20 miles of the trail provide great scenery for a ride of any length.
- Eastside BeltLine Trail
Atlanta's urban glory is on full display along the Eastside BeltLine Trail. Opened in 2013, the 11-mile pet-friendly path is one of the segments that will eventually form the Atlanta BeltLine, a planned 33-mile route that will connect 45 of the city's neighborhoods. The trail runs from Piedmont Park to Memorial Drive, with an extensive section passing through the Old Fourth Ward and colorful murals illustrating the way. One of the highlights is Ponce City Market, a former Sears retail store and warehouse transformed into a mixed-use development with offices, apartments, a food hall, and a rooftop amusement park.
- Suwanee Greenway Trail
Take Fido and the kids to enjoy the splendors of Mother Nature at Suwanee Greenway Trail. The 3-mile trail, including both paved sections and boardwalks, is an easy ride across wetlands and through forests. Make a game out of who can be the first to spot a deer, rabbit, turtle, or any of the other wildlife often seen along the trail.
