Our real estate agents are excited to share some of their favorite parks and trails in Atlanta! We've chosen trails that range in difficulty from easy to moderate, making them accessible to hikers of all ages and experience levels.
- Piedmont Park Loop - 10th Street NE and Piedmont Avenue NE, Atlanta, GA 30309
Arguably Atlanta's most famous and beautiful park, Piedmont Park spans over 200 acres northeast of downtown. There's much to explore here, including many hiking trails. The park's size makes it easy to explore as much as you want at your own pace. A 2.4-mile loop hike can be accomplished by starting on the Meadow Path, walking the circumference of Lake Clara Meer, and then circling the Active Oval Loop. Chances are you'll spot some of these lovely Atlanta homes for sale nearby.
- Cascade Springs Nature Preserve Trail - 2852 Cascade Road, Atlanta, GA 30311
The 120-acre Cascade Springs Nature Preserve is one of the most wild and scenic spots within the Atlanta city limits. Just 6 miles west of downtown, this densely wooded area is a perfect place for a hike, and it's especially charming in autumn as the leaves change. The nature preserve is crisscrossed by many miles of trails, which can be hiked in countless configurations to form loops of varied length. The 2.6-mile Outer Loop hike hits many of the preserve's highlights, including a small waterfall, historic stone spring house, and Civil War battle site.
- cLess than a 15-minute drive north of downtown Atlanta, the East Palisades Trail is a wild urban oasis that feels like another world entirely. Part of the vast Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area, the trail includes multiple segments overlooking the Chattahoochee River. One can enjoy an easy out-and-back hike along the riverbank or loop up into the hills above for a moderately challenging hike that offers great views from a wooden overlook deck. This section of the Chattahoochee River also offers excellent fishing and kayaking.
- Sweetwater Creek State Park -1750 Mt. Vernon Road, Lithia Springs, GA 30122
Sweetwater State Park is a truly spectacular landscape of wooded hills, valleys, and creeks just 30 minutes west of Atlanta. The park includes a campground, historic mill ruins, and a small fishing lake, but it's best known for its 15-mile trail system, which provides some of the best hiking and trail running in the region. A few of the trails are closed for renovation at the time of publication, but the 5.2-mile White Loop remains open, and it offers some truly outstanding fall scenery with moderate terrain.
- Kennesaw Mountain - 900 Kennesaw Mountain Drive, Kennesaw, GA 30152
There are many excellent mountain hikes near Atlanta, but Kennesaw Mountain is a favorite due to its proximity to the city—just 30 minutes away—and because you can see the entire Atlanta skyline from the top. The peak is located within Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park, and the most direct route to the summit is a 1.1-mile out-and-back hike from the Visitor Center, which gains a modest 659 feet of elevation.
