One thing many of our beautiful Atlanta homes for sale have in common is a beautiful kitchen, well-planned and spacious. But whether you enjoy entertaining or prefer to just cook for your family, you must have a kitchen that functions efficiently. Our real estate agents know that you probably already have many of these essentials but have compiled a checklist to help you make sure you move into your new home fully prepared.
- Pots and Pans
You may be tempted to buy an inexpensive set of non-stick cookware, but you'll need to replace it more quickly than you would imagine. Buying a few higher-quality pieces and building a collection over time is a more economical choice. Consider a Dutch oven or other heavy-bottomed pan that will allow you to cook both on the stovetop and in the oven. These are perfect for soups, stews, and small roasts. Add a skillet for frying, a casserole dish, a saute pan, and two saucepans. If you bake, you will want two cake pans, two pie pans, and two cookie sheets. Finally, add a roasting pan for turkeys and large roasts.
- Small Appliances
A blender or hand blender is great for smoothies and frozen drinks. Many people who buy one for the first time wonder how they ever got along without one. Speaking of drinks, don't forget your morning coffee. Personal preference drives this decision from individual pods to smart automatic drip coffee makers. If coffee is not in your diet, you may prefer to use a teapot. Next on the list is a toaster, followed by a food processor, a grinder for nuts or coffee, an air fryer, an instant pot, or a pressure cooker. What you select from this list largely depends on how you cook and what you eat. Finishing off the category is a stand mixer, a must for bakers.
- Tools
Knives are the priciest items in this group. Once again, many people opt for an inexpensive set with a wooden block for storage and then find they are constantly fussing with poor-quality knives. Experienced cooks will always prefer a chef's knife, often considered the workhorse of all knives, a serrated bread knife, and a paring knife for vegetables. Of course, using a knife without a cutting board is difficult, and you want a good one that will stand up to your knives. Purists will argue about the best material: wood, bamboo, or plastic. They each have their pros and cons. You will want to purchase a set of tools that include spoons, spatulas, whisks, ladles, and a grater. You will need measuring cups and spoons for both liquid and dry ingredients. You will need a set of mixing bowls, hot pads and oven mitts, storage containers, and a good-quality can opener.
- Dishes
Once you have prepared a great meal in your new kitchen, you don't want to serve it on paper plates! You will need plates, bowls, mugs, glasses, and silverware sufficient for your family and guests. Add bowls and platters to serve, as well as serving spoons and ladles. If you want to serve formal meals, you will also want to add tablecloths and napkins.
