  An annual event that takes place every June, Virginia-Highland Summerfest is held at John Howell Park, with a three-block section of Virginia Avenue also closed off to host artists, food vendors, and a local market. The fun starts with the Friday Night Kick-Off Party on June 7, followed by two full days of family fun on June 8 and 9.

  The weekend begins with the Summerfest Friday Night Kick-Off Party, which takes place from 6 – 9 p.m. on June 7, 2024. The Kick-Off Party features the raffle/silent auction, which always includes great items, as well as live music from Down Beat Daddy, food from local food trucks, lawn games for the whole family, and even a competition to win a block party for your Virginia-Highland block.

• Local Shopping and Great Live Music
  All weekend long, you can look forward to live music from a diverse selection of local and national bands, with shows from Mo Lowda & the Humble, The Whigs, Illiterate Light, The Mammoths, Stop Light Observations, The Vegabonds, and Kobanova. Artists, artisans, and local small businesses will also have booths throughout the festival area, offering plenty of unique treasures to uncover.

• Activities for All Ages and the 5K Fun Run
  Virginia-Highland Summerfest is designed to be an event for the whole neighborhood, kids included. The Kidsfest section of the festival is especially popular for families, featuring activities, games, and crafts for kids of all ages. Kids can look forward to activities like rock climbing, face painting, fun, engaging games, and a large inflatable slide. The 5K Fun Run is another popular event for all ages, featuring a leisurely pace and a course that winds its way through the Virginia-Highland neighborhood.

• Getting to Virginia-Highland Summerfest
  With more than 15,000 people expected to attend throughout the weekend, you can expect the area around Virginia-Highland Summerfest to be quite busy. Event organizers encourage guests to use MARTA or a ride-share service to maximize convenience and minimize traffic. If you choose to drive, there's some street parking as well as paid parking lots near the festival. Spots tend to fill up fast, which is another reason other forms of transportation are recommended.

• Raising Money for Positive Causes
  One of the cool things about Virginia-Highland Summerfest is how proceeds are re-invested into the community. Since 2017, the Virginia-Highland Civic Association has donated nearly $100,000 to the neighborhood's schools, libraries, non-profits, and community organizations. Funds from the event have also helped to pay off the mortgage on North Highland Park.
