Fun Summer Day Trips Near Atlanta | JYB Realty

Summer is the perfect time to heed Willie Nelson's call to head out on the road again. Our real estate agents love the many opportunities for day trips, including these wonderful cities and attractions that are no more than a 90-minute drive from Atlanta homes for sale.

  • Amicalola Falls State Park - 418 Amicalola Falls Road, Dawsonville, GA 30534
The namesake attraction is only one of the features that make Amicalola Falls State Park, just over an hour from Atlanta, such a must-see. Tops among the numerous hiking trails is the eight-mile Approach Trail, which provides access to Springer Mountain and the legendary Appalachian Trail. Other activities at the pet-friendly park include ziplining, hatchet-throwing, and fishing. In addition to campgrounds, Amicalola Falls has a lodge, cabins, and an onsite restaurant. The park is open year-round during daylight hours, and daily admission is $5 per vehicle.

  • Athens - 300 N. Thomas St., Athens, GA 30601
Notable as the home of the University of Georgia, Athens is also acclaimed for its rich history and culture, much like its namesake city in Greece. Stunning Victorian-style homes and buildings can be found throughout Athens, while statues, murals, and other public art turn the city itself into a virtual gallery. Venues such as the iconic 40 Watt Club demonstrate that Athens' famous music scene continues to thrive. Meanwhile, Sandy Creek Nature Center and Memorial Park and Bear Hollow Zoo are only two of many family-friendly activities in this city, only 90 minutes from Atlanta.

  • Cartersville - 1 Friendship Plaza, Cartersville, GA 30120
A centerpiece park called Friendship Plaza is an immediate sign of the warmth and charm that are hallmarks of Cartersville, less than an hour's drive from Atlanta. Travel back through time at the Bartow History Museum, which chronicles the life and times of Cartersville dating back to the early 19th century. Other fascinating historic attractions include the Booth Western Art Museum, the second-largest art museum in Georgia, and the Etoawah Indian Mounds. Stroll the downtown streets and browse the shops while viewing the Photo Fence and the Art Walk.

  • Covington - 1143 Oak St. SE, Covington, GA 30014
Offering an appealing blend of small-town charm and big-city excitement, the "Covington Experience" is only 30 minutes away. See why Covington has been dubbed the "Hollywood of the South" when you visit filming locations of The Vampire Diaries, Remember the Titans, and other popular movies and TV shows. If your interests run toward real-life supernatural thrills, don't miss the Covington Ghost Tour. There are also plenty of real-life attractions, such as historic buildings and performing arts theaters.

  • Helen - 726 Brucken Strasse, Helen, GA 30545
The Bavarian-style charms of Helen will have you believing you're thousands of miles away in Germany instead of a mere 90 miles from Atlanta. Yes, there was a real Helen, the daughter of a lumber official who participated in the city's incorporation. When the lumber industry went into decline, the city reinvented itself as an Alpine town in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Nacoochee Adventures adds historical flavor to thrilling zipline rides, while Cool River Tubing along the Chattahoochee River is a popular delight.
