Celebrate Canine Fitness Month Around Atlanta | JYB Realty

As the weather grows warmer, many of us are refocusing on fitness. If you're a dog owner, it's the perfect time of year for your pup to be more active, too! April is Canine Fitness Month, after all. Whether the two of you love playing fetch, going for long walks, or exploring new places, here are some top Atlanta dog parks and walking areas our real estate agents recommend.

  • Freedom Barkway - 523 Highland Ave. NE, Atlanta, GA 30312
Just outside downtown Atlanta, Freedom Barkway is a 2-acre dog park with a large off-leash area. There are separate spaces for small and large dogs, which helps keep everyone safe. Trees surround the park, and there is plenty of grassy space for dogs to roam and play. Dogs must be up-to-date on vaccines and spayed or neutered to visit Freedom Barkway. No scooters or bicycles are allowed, and children must be 8 or older to visit.

  • Fetch Park O4W - 520 Daniel St. SE, Atlanta, GA 30312
For those who love to exercise and socialize, Fetch Park is a great choice. Here, you can enjoy a drink with fellow dog lovers while your dogs play together. A one-day visit is $15 per dog, or you can buy a Flex Pass for $35 per month. Children are allowed at Fetch Park, although they must be supervised. Outside food and beverages are not allowed, but the park does have a great selection of local craft beers!

  • Morningside Nature Preserve - 2020 Lenox Road NE, Atlanta, GA 30324
    Morningside Nature Preserve
was created to preserve a section of forested land along the South Peachtree Creek. There are running trails winding through the preserve, making it a great place to walk or jog with your pup. This is one of the few nature preserves in the area that welcome dogs, so you're bound to meet other pups and their owner when you visit. The trails through Morningside Nature Preserve are rated easy to moderate, and the entire system is about 2 miles long. You'll cross a bridge, enjoy views of the creek and forest, and maybe even see some turtles, fox, or beaver.

  • Tanyard Creek Park - 73 28th St. NW, Atlanta, GA 30309
Another great place to get some exercise by the water is Tanyard Creek Park. This park is located along a former railroad in Buckhead. You and your dog can walk over covered bridges, past several playgrounds, and through the woods. Owners often let their dogs play in the grassy fields on the west side of the park. This is also a great spot to have a picnic or play a few games of fetch. While you're there, read some of the historic markers to learn more about the area's history.

  • State & 17th Street Dog Park - State Street NW and 17th Street NW, Atlanta, GA 30363
Also known as Atlantic Station Dog Park, the State & 17th Street Dog Park is a small, friendly city park with an off-leash area for dogs. Most of the park is grassy, but there are some woodchip areas, too. Dog bowls and running water ensure your pup always has something to drink. This park has a nice view of Midtown, and there are benches where you can sit and relax for a while. It's busier on weekends but usually quiet on weekdays.

We hope you get a chance to head outside and get some exercise with your dog this month. If you and your pup are looking for Atlanta homes for sale, don't hesitate to contact us. Our agents are happy to help.
