Embrace the Charm: Why Residents Can't Resist Calling Atlanta Home | JYB Realty

Ask Atlanta residents about the city's enduring appeal, and they're likely to point to the unique blend of urban sophistication and Southern charm. Our real estate agents give you the scoop on some of the attractions that make Atlanta homes for sale so desirable.

  • A City in the Forest
Urban development often has a negative impact on an area's natural beauty. Atlanta's community leaders want to reverse that trend, and thanks to their efforts, The ATL is known as a City in the Forest. Approximately 48 percent of the metro area is shaded with trees, creating the densest urban tree canopy in the country.

  • World's Largest Drive-In Restaurant - The Varsity, 61 North Ave., Atlanta, GA 30308
Before Sonic, there was The Varsity. Founded in 1928, this Atlanta landmark covers two city blocks and earned the title of "World's Largest Drive-In Restaurant." At their peak in the 1950s, The Varsity had nearly 130 carhops on the payroll. Be sure to pair your meal with a frosted orange milkshake. Hours are 11 a.m. - 8 p.m. daily except Friday and Saturday, when closing time is 9 p.m.

  • Dragon Con
For pop culture fans, there's only one place to be on Labor Day weekend: Dragon Con in downtown Atlanta. This five-day event spans nearly every genre, from sci-fi and fantasy to art and literature. The Saturday morning parade, a Dragon Con tradition since 2002, is broadcast live on local TV and streamed online. With more than 80,000 visitors, five downtown hotels are needed to contain all the activities. Dragon Con 2025 takes place from 8/28-9/1. Visit the website for full schedule and ticket information.

  • Zoo Atlanta - 800 Cherokee Ave. SE, Atlanta, GA 30315
Zoo Atlanta owes its existence to financial mismanagement, when a traveling menagerie in 1889 was stopped in its tracks due to bankruptcy.  Fast-forward more than a century, and the modest animal show has become a world-class zoo. Notable "residents" have included Willie B., a lovable gorilla who joined the zoo as an infant, and Lun Lun and Yang Yang, an adorable panda pair loaned from China. Zoo Atlanta is open 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. weekends. Visit the website for ticket information.

  • Atlanta Ballet - Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, 2800 Cobb Galleria Parkway, Atlanta, GA 30339
Did you know that the Atlanta Ballet is the oldest ballet company in the United States? Dating back more than 80 years, the company also nurtures up-and-coming dancers through their Centre for Dance Education. Staging The Nutcracker, the company's annual signature event, involves 212 students (including 43 children), 94 musicians, and 250 costumes. Visit the website for schedule and ticket information.

  • World of Coca-Cola - 121 Baker St. NW, Atlanta, GA 30313
Atlanta is famous as the home of Coca-Cola, the most popular soft drink around the globe. Share much more than a Coke and a smile at the World of Coca-Cola. The whole family will have fun exploring interactive exhibits, browsing the store, and getting a picture taken with the iconic Coca-Cola polar bear. Don't miss Taste It!, where you can sample more than 100 Coca-Cola beverages from international locales. Visit the website for hours and ticket information.

  • Ponce City Market - 675 Ponce De Leon Ave. NE, Atlanta, GA 30308
Work? Home? Play? Ponce City Market practically forms its own neighborhood. In addition to luxury apartments, the Market boasts temporary housing options, 700,000 square feet of office space, a curated collection of boutiques and services, a food hall with dozens of restaurants and stalls, and a rooftop entertainment park.
