Atlanta Walking Tours: Explore Downtown Architectural Gems | JYB Realty

As a leading metropolis in the United States, Atlanta has been a leader in adopting modern and post-modern architectural styles, but a number of buildings from its extensive history remain. Our real estate agents present a list of must-see buildings around downtown Atlanta from which you can curate your walking tour.

  • Georgia State Capitol - 206 Washington St., Atlanta, GA 30334
In addition to its stunning architecture, the Georgia State Capitol offers an opportunity for a first-hand look at the workings of our government. Built in 1889 and recently remodeled, the building is noted for its majestic gold-plated dome supporting a statue of Miss Freedom. Hours are 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. weekdays, and admission is free.

  • Flatiron Building - 84 Peachtree St. NW, Atlanta, GA 30303
Once known as the English-American Building, the Flatiron Building is named for its distinctive shape, much like its twin in NYC. The 11-story building dates back to 1897, making it the oldest standing skyscraper in Atlanta. Outside, the beautiful terra cotta cladding has been restored to its original condition, while the interior boasts a marble staircase and vintage elevator.

  • The Center - 190 Marietta St. NW, Atlanta, GA 30303
Until 2024, CNN Center served as the headquarters of the groundbreaking Cable News Network. After the network completed the move to their original headquarters in Midtown Atlanta, the building was rebranded as The Center, with plans to convert it to a mixed-use facility serving as a retail, office, and entertainment hub.

  • College Football Hall of Fame - 250 Marietta St. NW, Atlanta, GA 30313
You don't have to be a sports fan to appreciate a visit to the College Football Hall of Fame. Elements of a football's shape are actually incorporated into the 50,000 square-foot building's design. Aspiring quarterbacks can test their skills on the 45-foot replication of the Peach Bowl field. Hours are 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. every day but Tuesday. Tickets are $22-$35.

  • Catholic Shrine of the Immaculate Conception - 48 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive SW, Atlanta, GA 30303
Churches are often breathtaking examples of various forms of architecture, and the Catholic Shrine of the Immaculate Conception is no exception. The stately Gothic Revival-style brick building was completed and dedicated in 1873. On a sunny day, the 150 stained glass windows create an incredible display. From 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. weekdays, visitors may enter the shrine by checking in at the office.

  • Centennial Olympic Park - 265 Park Ave. W. NW, Atlanta, GA 30313
The grandeur and triumphs of the 1996 Summer Games still resonate around Centennial Olympic Park, a pet-friendly facility that still presides as the centerpiece of the city's entertainment district. Document your visit with selfies at a number of Instagram-ready spots such as the Fountain of Rings Plaza, Gateway of Dreams, and the quintet of "Quilts" linked by the Water Gardens. Centennial Olympic Park is open seven days a week from 7 a.m. - 10 p.m. and admission is free.

  • Georgia Aquarium - 225 Baker St. NW, Atlanta, GA 30313
Did you know that the Georgia Aquarium is the largest in the United States? The eye-catching blue metal-and-glass exterior immediately conjures a sense of the ocean. While the aquarium features Beluga whales, African penguins, and other fascinating animals, the stars of the show are the whale sharks. The 6.3 million-gallon tank is the first one outside of Asia to hold these magnificent creatures. The Georgia Aquarium is open 365 days a year. Visit the website for seasonal hours and ticket information.
